SPACE is a multidisciplinary arts non-profit in Portland, Maine, grounded in the belief that vital communities are activated by experimentation, conversation, and camaraderie. The SPACE membership program starts at $50. We also offer discounted memberships beginning at $25 for 6-months, enrolled full-time students, and adjunct/public school teachers. All donors receive the monthly events calendar mailed directly to their door, ticket discounts to most programs with your membership card, exclusive pre-sales to events that will sell out, and artist-made ephemera throughout one year. We welcome donations of any size, but perks, discounts, and calendar mailings, come with a full membership.
As an alternative platform for local, national, and international artists, SPACE prioritizes original collaborations, risk-taking, and public engagement with programming across music, visual art, film, performance, literary arts and more. SPACE uses the top floors of its building to rent below-market-rate studios to local artists and run an artist-in-residence program. SPACE is also a partner in Andy Warhol Foundation Regional Regranting program, entering its 6th year administering Kindling Fund grants for Maine artists.
